چکیده

Integration of phase-change materials (PCMs) into building fabrics is considered to be one of the potential and effective ways of minimising energy-consumption and CO2-emissions in the building sector. In order to assess the thermal effectiveness of this concept, composite PCM drywall samples (i.e., randomly mixed and laminated PCM drywalls) have been evaluated in a model passive-solar building. For a broader assessment, the effects of three phasechange zones (narrow, intermediate and wide) of the PCM sample were considered. The results showed that the laminated PCM sample with a narrow phase-change zone was capable of increasing the minimum room temperature by about 17% more than the randomly mixed type. Even though there was some display of a non-isothermal phase-change process, the laminated system proved to be thermally more effective in terms of evolution and utilisation of latent heat. A further heat-transfer enhancement process is, however, required for the development of the laminated system. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Improvement of thermal performance of a solar chimney based on a passive solar heating system with phase-change materials

Passive solar systems such as solar chimneys need solar radiation in order to work. Therefore, they cannot present stable natural ventilation when solar energy vanishes: to have a more robust and stable condition, solar energy should be stored during the day and released back during the night. Phase change materials can save additional thermal energy during the day and release it during the...

A Multi-Scenario Zero-Energy Building Techno-Economic Case Study Analysis for a Renovation of a Residential Building

According to the previous pieces of research, the building sector consumes about 40 % of total yield energy and produce one-third of GHG pollution emission. This point shows the significant potential in two aspects of energy optimization and pollution reduction in this field. The purpose of this research as a case study is to construct a residential building and develop the paths for reaching a...

Numerical study of heat gradient and crossing energy to around building walls containing phase change materials in Kashan temperature conditions

The application of phase change materials (PCM) in the variant parts of building because of the high capacity these materials, lead to an improvement in temperature conditions and reduction in energy consumption. Due to the high dependency of the performance of these materials to the ambient temperature fluctuations, their applications in climates with extreme temperature fluctuations has a sig...
